Our Structure

Our mission-driven organizational structure is designed to liberate the energy of Incarnate Word members in achieving the mission of our Church. It encourages individual and small group initiative, reduces control within the scope of our Mission and Vision, delegates authority, builds trust, and pursues excellence through collaboration and networking.

Council Definitions

Familiar term, modified job description
Twelve elected members “guide the ship,” interpret policies
Makes sure our ministry stays on track with our Mission and Vision
Provides spiritual leadership in congregation
Guides our long-range planning
Promotes and directs communication and accountability
Delegates many routine decisions to “Core Groups”

Core Group Definitions

Replace Standing Committees (see above)
Use names derived from our stained glass windows
Have at least five members, including Council representatives
Are accountable to Council
Oversee and evaluate current ministries assigned to their Group
Serve as “launching pads” for new ministries
Approve and support new ministries compatible with our Mission, Vision, & resources

Ministry Teams

Groups of people who, based on spiritual gifts and interests:

Fulfill current ministries (e.g., Altar Guild, ushers, education faculty, Wellness Center, choirs, youth advisors, stewardship, community service projects, Sudanese refugees)
Develop new congregational and community ministries compatible with our Mission, Vision, and resources
Pursue Luther's idea of the "priesthood of all believers," i.e., all the baptized are called to ministry in the worldrelated to their individual gifts
Accept accountability to their respective Core Groups
